Eileen Tanghal

Eileen is an engineer, entrepreneur, and venture capitalist and have worked with over 40+ deep tech companies around the world . 

She started her career as a device physicist with an early stage successful semiconductor company. After spending the 2000s as a VC in the UK, she went on to lead the VC group of Applied Materials and then led the New Business Ventures Group at ARM. 

In 2017, she joined In-Q-Tel (the CIA’s VC Partner) as a Senior Partner then MD of the firm’s London office. The investments she led for InQTel include Cerebras, Mythic, EdgeQ, EdgeImpulse, Bragi, Blue Danube, Prophesee, Falkonry, Pragmatic and Paragraf.  At In-Q-Tel, she also served as an advisor to government leaders on semiconductor policy starting in 2019 which helped inform the CHIPS act signed into law in August 2022

In 2022, she decided to start a new endeavor and focus on investing in companies using hard tech to revolutionize healthcare and biosecurity. She founded Black Opal Ventures. Her debut $62M fund invests in early stage companies looking to revolutionize diagnosis, delivery of care and drug discovery and delivery through the utilization of advanced technology including Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Computing at the Edge, TinyML, Digital Twins and Materials.

She is passionate about advancing the number of women in the STEM and venture capital fields.
